April 9 – 16:
Fusion Painting- Oils to Acrylics:This is an A-Z course for acrylic and/or oil painters of all levels. Understand, explore, and enjoy each media in one class and learn how to integrate the two as you’re introduced to new methods and materials. Topics include supply selection, painting methods such as alla prima, underpainting, layering, and glazing. Applications for landscapes, skies, textures, and foliage will be demonstrated. We’ll work in and out of the studio, enjoy spring in the mountains.
May 28 – June 2: Reed, Quill and Brush Drawing – Using reed pens, feather quills, and brushes with beautiful walnut ink, experience an almost-lost art while capturing elements of spring on campus. We’ll make pens from reeds growing on Brasstown Creek and ink from walnut hulls and other natural materials. Old European methods of sizing and preparing premium paper will be taught, adding richness and depth to the work. All levels welcome, though it is helpful to have some drawing experience.
August 20 – 26: Critters & Creatures – Study with a master in animal painting. All aspects of form, movement, and textures will be covered, and fur, feather, and fin techniques will be demonstrated. From pet portraits to King of the Beasts, learn the five principles that will bring your painting to life. This class provides a comprehensive introduction to oil and acrylic materials and methods that assist in creating realistic, expressive effects. Come and be an “animalier.” Painters of all levels welcome.
