JMK Studio236 is the active studio, teaching, and workshop site for artist John Mac Kah in the historic Riverview Station, River Arts District of Asheville, NC. A working artist since art school, he teaches from his studio and in workshops nationwide. Classes and workshops in drawing, traditional oils, and acrylics.

Studio is open BY APPOINTMENT. Please give me a heads up – we are happy to have visitors. We are here daily from 10am – 6pm, but class may be in session. Best way to reach me is by email.
New Students Welcome! Private drawing and painting lessons for 3 hours Covid protocols in place, please be vaccinated or wear a mask. Stay home if you are not well.
Daily Classes, ongoing. . Weekly Monday-Saturday. Drawing Prep for painters, traditional oils, mediums. Foundations of drawing, color, traditional oil painting.
We have a new classroom, 450 square feet in #234. Our main working studio is next store in #236.

Upcoming: The Painters’ Craft: Materials for Oil Paint.Develop confidence with oil paint’s special character of luminosity, expressive potential, and longevity. We will cover pigments, oil mediums, varnish, and grounds as we prepare traditional supports: gessoed panel, paper, and linen. We’ll explore paint application, color, and tonal techniques through daily demos in the studio with still-life set ups and outside on the Folk School campus. All levels welcome. February 5 – 11, 2023.
North entrance: Turn on to OLD LYMAN from Riverside Drive (right if you are going north; left if from the south); pass Art Garden, Mountain Glassworks, turn right onto Foundy Street, pass Summit Coffee.12 Bones is to your left , take the first right. Look for two big round windows.Comeup the wooden stairs.
South entrance (front of the building facing Riverside Drive. Park in the front lot of Riverview Station near Yuzu Patisserie. Take the stairs to the left of their front door. Walk toward the back of the building; Look for signs to JMK Studio236. Alternately, go through an open alley on the ground floor and look for the stairs and round windows above.
Come up these stairs, first or second door, on right.
