Studio Composition: March 16 – 18, 2012
This class is to prepare the student to work and make decisions on location. Prior planning in the studio can ground students before they attempt to take on plein-air work. Register before March 9th.
Phenomenal Painting: Atmosphere: March 23 – 25, 2012
Learn to add atmosphere to your paintings to capture natural phenomena fog, mist, reflections, rain, shadows, and snow using a tonalist approach to oils. Register before March 15th.
Natural Textures-Bring Them to Life: April 27 – 29, 2012
One of the challenges of painting nature is rendering texture in a convincing manner…bark, fur,grass, foliage, foreground…to produce natural patterns quickly and realistically based on observation of pattern and form. Early Registeration before April 19th.
Pigments & Paint-What’s on your palette? May 4 – 6, 2012
Learn how pigments relate to color theory, the history of pigment use and learn how to read the labels on your paint tubes. Begins with earth colors of the prehistoric period and looks at how artists’ palettes developed over time. We will be mixing colors to see the potential in the array of pigments available as applied to color theory . This class will begin at 1pm on Friday; 10 am -4pm on Saturday and 11 – 4pm on Sunday. Fee is 175. Early registration by April 27. $150. Materials fee. $15. This is one of two workshops. You may take one or both.
Painting a Mountain-Cold Mountain: May 18 – 19, 2012
Painting the mountains has special challenges and pleasures. Join me for an adventure and expedition to paint an icon! Paint one in morning light, one in the afternoon or sunset if we are lucky. Pack your lunch and bring your portable easel. All levels welcome. Call for information and directions. Early registration by May 10th.
Develop a Personal Palette: June 15 – 17, 2012
This is the second of our two part workshop on color and pigment and you may take one or both. Cool or warm colors? How do our paint choices affect our work? A weekend of painting based on color exploration. Open or closed palettes? You need to be already experienced with working in oils. Early registration by June 7. $200.
