location

John Mac Kah with The LedgesMy studio is located in one of the two remaining buildings of the historic Asheville Cotton Mill, built in 1895 by Moses Cone. The original complex covered several blocks on Riverside Drive, along the French Broad River in the River Arts District of Asheville.  Manufacturing denim and cotton goods, operations ceased in the 1970s. A fire devastated most of the remaining buildings, leaving what is now called Cotton Mill Studios. It was renovated as working artists’ studios in 1999. My studio is upstairs on the right by way of the center stairs.

We have an informal and ever changing selection of work on display in the building and in the studio, sharing the space with our neighbors and students. It is very much a work-space and you are welcome to come in but you may find students working independently or I will be conducting a demonstration, working on a project or planning one. I do travel, paint on location and teach at other locations.
